The story originated as a web novel on Shōsetsuka ni Narō, a popular Japanese web fiction site. It was officially published as a light novel by DRE Novels (Kadokawa imprint). It was later adapted into manga form due to its rising popularity. The manga is divided into arcs, with different illustrators per part: Part 1 Artist: Azusa Banjo (detailed horror atmosphere, realistic character design) Part 2 Artist: Kou Shimotsuki (sharper line work, slightly more surreal tone)
